The full story

Venom: The Last Dance picks up after the events of Let There Be Carnage and the brief MCU detour seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scene. Eddie and Venom were pulled into the MCU by the multiverse disruption but were sent back when Doctor Strange's memory-erasing spell restored the multiverse's boundaries. However, a small piece of the Venom symbiote was left behind on a bar counter in the MCU—a detail that will echo across both franchises.

Back in their own universe, Eddie and Venom are fugitives. Eddie is wanted for the deaths at the cathedral battle with Carnage. They're hiding in Mexico, planning to reach New York, when a new threat emerges: Xenophages, dog-like alien predator creatures dispatched by Knull, the primordial god and creator of all symbiotes, imprisoned on the dark planet Klyntar.

Knull wants the Codex—a unique genetic key created when a symbiote saves its host from death by fully merging with them. This happened when Venom saved Eddie's life in the first film. The Codex is encoded in Eddie and Venom's bond, and Knull needs it to break free from his cosmic prison and unleash symbiote conquest across the universe.

Eddie and Venom's road trip across the American Southwest becomes a running battle against Xenophages. They pick up allies along the way—a family driving to Area 51 for a UFO convention, various strangers—and Venom bonds temporarily with a horse, a fish, and other creatures in comedic sequences that underscore the symbiote's adaptability.

They're eventually captured by the military and taken to Area 51, where General Rex Strickland runs a covert symbiote research operation. Strickland has been studying symbiote specimens and knows about the Xenophage threat. He plans to use Eddie as bait.

When the Xenophages assault Area 51 en masse, the facility's defenses fail. Venom bonds with multiple captive symbiotes to fight them off in a spectacular final battle. But the Xenophages keep coming—they'll never stop as long as the Codex exists.

Venom makes the choice Eddie cannot. He separates from Eddie, merges with the Xenophage swarm, and drives them into the facility's acid incinerator, destroying himself, the Xenophages, and the Codex in a single sacrifice. Eddie screams. Venom is gone.

Eddie survives. His criminal record is cleared by the government in recognition of what happened at Area 51. The film closes with Eddie in New York City, looking at the Statue of Liberty, reflecting on the partner he lost. No quips. No second chances. Venom is dead, and Eddie is alone for the first time in three films.

A mid-credits scene shows Knull, still imprisoned but aware: "The Codex is destroyed. But I am not." A post-credits scene reveals a cockroach at the destroyed Area 51 site fused with a surviving trace of Venom symbiote, hinting the legacy is not entirely finished.
