Eddie Brock is a San Francisco investigative journalist whose career collapses after he ambushes Carlton Drake with questions about the Life Foundation's illegal trials, on air, and loses his job, his fiancée, and his credibility in the fallout. He's involuntarily bonded to an alien symbiote while investigating Drake afterward, and the bond turns out to be less a parasite than an odd, combative partnership -- Eddie provides the conscience, the symbiote provides the power, and between them they've stopped a Life Foundation invasion, a serial killer's rampage, and briefly landed in the wrong universe entirely before a spell pulled them back to their own.
