Mac Gargan is a career criminal whose enhanced strength and armored, tail-mounted stinger come from experimental treatments administered years earlier, giving him the alias Scorpion. Freed from a prison transfer when Jean Grey possesses his guards to cover his escape, he tears through a Damage Control facility hunting the same lead she is before running into Spider-Man, who beats him into submission and leaves him webbed up for the police.
