Gamora is the last of her species, adopted and brutally trained as a weapon by Thanos after he wiped out most of her people, becoming the deadliest woman in the galaxy through relentless conditioning and cybernetic enhancement. She eventually broke from Thanos to join the Guardians of the Galaxy, though a variant of her from an earlier point in her life, who never made that break, now exists separately in the present timeline.
